Beverage Director

Summary: The Beverage Director oversees all aspects of the beverage program including curating and managing the wine, spirits, and cocktail offerings. The ideal candidate will be an expert in these areas, possessing extensive knowledge of whisky varieties, distillation methods, the art of spirit selection, and the nuances of wine tasting and pairing.
The Beverage Director will collaborate with chefs, managers, and other staff to ensure that the beverage offerings align with the overall concept and culinary experience of the restaurant. The role involves training and mentoring staff, developing seasonal or unique beverage menus, managing inventory and ordering supplies, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and maintaining a high level of guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curate and develop the beverage program, including whisky, spirits, and wine offerings, ensuring that selections complement the food menu and enhance the guest experience.
- Design and maintain a wine list, offering a well-balanced selection of wines from various regions, paired with menu items for optimal customer enjoyment.
- Expertly design and craft cocktails, utilizing a deep understanding of whisky and other spirits to create signature drinks that align with current trends and customer preferences.
- Oversee inventory management for all beverage-related items, ensuring adequate stock levels, cost control, and timely reordering.
- Educate and train staff on whisky, spirits, and wine knowledge, including tasting notes, origins, production methods, and appropriate pairings.
- Develop relationships with suppliers and distributors to stay informed about new product releases, trends, and potential partnerships.
- Ensure compliance with all local and state regulations regarding alcohol service and safety.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked bar and beverage storage area, ensuring all items are properly labeled and stored according to industry standards.
- Provide exceptional guest service by recommending beverage pairings, answering questions, and ensuring overall satisfaction with the beverage program.
- Manage the budget and financial aspects of the beverage program, tracking sales, costs, and profitability.
Must Haves:
- Proven experience as a Beverage Director or similar role in a high-end, fine dining establishment.
- Extensive knowledge and passion for whisky, spirits, and wine, including production techniques, varieties, and pairing principles.
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Comprehensive understanding of restaurant operations, including inventory control.
- Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for interacting with staff, customers, and other stakeholders
- Proficient in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
- Experience with analyzing financial reports, such as profit and loss statements, to make informed business decisions.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to the restaurant industry, including food safety, labor laws, and licensing requirements.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
